Bob the Turtle
This is a finished watercolor painting of a sea turtle. This is the
first of three paintings related in topic choice. I named him Bob.
Wumbo
This is a finished watercolor piece of a Basking Whale Shark. I wanted
to do something different for my third piece, and since they
are all supposed to be related, I picked another sea creature.
ALL HAIL THE CONCH
This is my finished watercolor painting of a conch shell.
I decided to not do a background because I could
not find one that I thought was suitable and easy enough to do,
plus adding a background would take away from the detailed shell.

Balance
I used a new medium for this piece of art that I have
never used before, called chalk pastels. This was
a challenge to complete, but I'm glad I
accomplished it. This was done for my drawing class.

Starry Night
Van Gogh

Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh is a world famous painting done in oil. It was created in 1889 when Van Gogh was staying in the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum. This painting was created when Van Gogh relapsed and fell into depression while he was staying at the mental asylum where he was diagnosed with epileptic fits. Some factors of this painting are clearly the waves and stars in the sky, along with the large tree taking up a lot of the painting, and the little village in the distance.
The relationship between the patterns in the painting is how the whole piece seems to be floating together in harmony, yet each specific detail such as the sky or the tree is bending and moving in its own direction. The colors are all similar for sure in Starry Night. Van Gogh used a pattern of dark blues, greys, browns, and black to give the piece a deeper feel, but still managed to bring light to the painting with yellows in the sky. Examples of repetition include the flowing rhythm of the objects in the work. Overall qualities include distinct waves in the sky with the bright stars contrasting against the little village.
Van Gogh was going through depression while he was diagnosed with epileptic fits. People think his inspiration for the piece occurred from the view from his window at the asylum. People also believe that Van Gogh's isolation and depression contributed to the design and choice of colors in the work.
This painting is abstract, but realistic in its own way. I think the colors and movement in the sky compliment the little village very well. Everything goes together, every color and object has its place in this piece. Nothing is too overwhelming, and nothing is understated. The unique style of brush strokes makes this painting out to be one of a kind, but only a Van Gogh one of a kind. To me this painting is beautiful and mysterious, a sort of insight into the head of a man with depression and epilepsy. The work is tied together very well, the multiple shades of blues and yellows, grays and blacks are evenly distributed and abstractly made real.
